A groundbreaking work which has exerted considerable influence on modern drama. Six Characters in Search of an Author Summary A group of actors are preparing to rehearse for a Pirandello play. They gradually take over the stage to act out their story, each character representing a different point of view. These are the "six characters" of the title who appear in the flesh in the studio to confront the director and actors with the proposition that their story is more interesting than the play at hand. Television monitors in the control booth give way to an electrical interference that inexplicably replaces the images of the actors with the images of six mysterious strangers. As a group of actors prepares for a rehearsal of a TV adaptation of another Pirandello play-The Rules of the Game-the Luigi Pirandello's modern classic, starring Andy Griffith in a brilliant departure from his television persona as a country sheriff, along with Academy Award winner John Houseman (The Paper Chase), is directed by Stacy Keach, who has transposed the play's traditional theatrical setting to a television studio. ![]()

This was my favourite novella in the collection. ![]() I think I’ll do this story by story, otherwise this review could get a wee bit rambly: If you have any recommendations, let me know! ![]() I felt the same way about Four Past Midnight. I loved the way the stories were written (Stephen King is the BEST storyteller – you can tell even in the way he writes his personal notes to introduce each novella in this collection), and there were plenty of creepy moments, but I never felt the need to stash it away in the freezer for my own safety and sanity. I’m still searching for a story to *absolutely* terrify me in this way. I didn’t have to put it in the freezer like Joey from Friends… I’ve only ever read one Stephen King novel – The Shining – and whilst I loved it and it was certainly creepy, I wasn’t terrified by it. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Urban Witch by Eve Langlais![]() ![]() Just a woman trying to clean up her life and actually plan for a future. ULYSSES by James Joyce | Review first published May 28, 1922Ī few intuitive, sensitive visionaries may understand and comprehend “Ulysses,” James Joyce’s new and mammoth volume, without going through a course of training or instruction, but the average intelligent reader will glean little or nothing from it - even from careful perusal, one might properly say study, of it - save bewilderment and a sense of disgust. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rennison exquisitely captures the fine art of the adolescent ability to turn chaos into stand-up comedy. ![]() ![]() Teens will discover that nothing is sacred here (e.g., ""Talking of breasts, I'm worried that I may end up like the rest of the women in my family, with just the one bust, like a sort of shelf affair""). In a spectacular YA debut (Rennison is a comedy writer and columnist), the author creates a winning protagonist in the persona of 14-year-old Georgia Nicolson, whose wry observations and self-deprecating humor covers everything from prudish parents and bed-wetting three-year-old siblings to errant cat behavior and kissing (aka snogging) lessons. British writer Rennison's subject matter may be the stuff of Bridget Jones's Diary, but the wit and bite of her delivery shares more in common with Monty Python. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments The big reveal by jen larsen![]() Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
